Resources for Teaching English and Leading English Clubs
Club Basics: We recommend that each English club have a Faculty Sponsor, a Club President, and a Club Vice President. The Faculty Sponsor is a teacher who selects activities for English club meetings, is present at all meetings, and who helps the students remain positive and productive. The Club President and Vice President are students who the club elects to share responsibilities such as recruitment and organization.
English Club Handbook: Many of the English clubs we work with use Malu and Smedley's ENGLISH CLUB HANDBOOK (2015) as a basis for their lessons. You can download this handbook for yourself using the link to the right. -->
Additional Club Handbooks: We are also lucky to have additional handbooks that give us more support for speaking activities, reading activities, and lessons on African literature. You can download these guides using the links to the right. -->
Please note that the African Literature Teaching Guide and African Literature Reader go together as a pair. |

Resources for Learning English
- Grammarly: Grammarly is a small toolbar that you can install to your internet browser to provide instant grammar feedback on your written English. It uses a red underline similar to the one that Microsoft Word uses, but it gives much more accurate and detailed feedback and even offers explanations of why the underlined grammar is incorrect and examples of how to fix it. See the Grammarly web page for more information: (CLICK HERE).
- Youtube: Although most of us use Youtube for entertainment, it is also one of the best resources on the net for learning English. If you need a lesson on something specific, such as article usage, you can simply search "English article usage" to find a number of professional and helpful video lessons. If you simply want to browse lessons to see what's available, some of our favorite Youtube "Channels" for learning English include "Rachel's English" (CLICK HERE), "Let's Talk" (CLICK HERE), "English with Jennifer," (CLICK HERE), "Oxford Online English" (CLICK HERE), and "Anglo-Link" (CLICK HERE).
