Fifth English Competition (March 12, 2018)
The 5th English competition was held at St. Augustine University in M 10.
The event was attended by between 170 - 200 participants including students and teachers. The theme in this competition was, "select any gender discrimination you have experienced or witnessed and tell us what you did or planning to do to combat it".

- Speech competition where 12 students presented their speech on gender discrimination.
- Students and teachers participated in Activate Game.
- Students performance, comedy,
- Service learning presentation.
Fourth English Competition (July 17, 2017)
Our fourth English competition was held on July 17, 2017 in the M9 building of St. Augustine University, Tanzania.
35 of our partner schools held their own competitions, then the winners of those schools competitions participated in cluster competitions in groups of 3 schools at a time. 12 such clusters then selected their top-performing student. These students, as well as all students who had participated in every level of the competition, was invited to a big event at St. Augustine University, Mwanza. There were between 120-150 total attendees. In addition to the final round of our speech competition, this event hosted:
35 of our partner schools held their own competitions, then the winners of those schools competitions participated in cluster competitions in groups of 3 schools at a time. 12 such clusters then selected their top-performing student. These students, as well as all students who had participated in every level of the competition, was invited to a big event at St. Augustine University, Mwanza. There were between 120-150 total attendees. In addition to the final round of our speech competition, this event hosted:
- Talks from 2 students and 3 teachers who had recently visited the United States through educational exchange programs,
- A student talent show, with comedy and singing,
- A group discussion of future goals for TELTA Mwanza,
- and a group activity of creating educational posters together.
Third English Competition (Feb 27, 2017)
Our third English competition was held on February 27, 2017 in the M11 building of St. Augustine University, Tanzania.
40 participating schools were broken into clusters of 3-4 to make it easier for them to support one another and to hold "cluster competitions" before the big competition. The purposes of the cluster competition were (1) to motivate and inspire students at all participating schools and (2) to select 3 students from each cluster to attend the big competition at SAUT on Feb 27.

At the big competition, 35 students from 21 schools attended. All participants received certificates of accomplishment and pocket dictionaries donated by the American embassy in Dar es Salaam. Below are a few of our favorite photos from the event:
Second English Competition (Dec 2, 2016)
Our second English competition was held December 2, 2016, from 9am-4pm.
We had 16 student participants and 8 teachers chaperones from 8 participating Mwanza-region schools. All participating students received dictionaries and will soon receive certificates of achievement. Each participating school was asked to host its own mini-competition to produce a school representative in English writing and a school representative in English speaking. TELTA Mwanza members were available to assist with several of these mini-competitions.

Impartial judges from the Department of Languages and Linguistics at St. Augustine university graded each essay (3 judges) and each speech (2 judges). The heads of the English club at each participating school was been given a copy of the judging rubric about a month beforehand, which detailed the grading criteria used.

First English Competition (Sept, 2016)
Our first English competition was held in September, 2016. It was a great success.
- We hosted 18 participating students from 6 regional schools at the American Corner at Saint Augustine University.
- The participants came with a prepared Essay + speech on the topic of "Challenges Facing Girls in Education."
- Each participant spoke for 5 minutes and then answered 5 minutes of questions from their peers.
- All participants received dictionaries and pens.
- The top three students also received certificates of excellence.
